Mixed-use development

Mace’s mixed-use development projects successfully blend residential, commercial, retail and cultural uses to fully integrate the physical and the functional. And, whether it’s a fully fitted out residential apartment or a shell and core building, we understand the challenge of delivering.

Key to our success is a deep understanding of people. We respect and value the local communities in which we work. Our teams are highly adept when it comes to community engagement. So much so, that we’ve been recognised at the highest level of Considerate Contractor Awards, on many occasions.

Working on schemes often with a value of more than £400 million, we’re not phased by the logistics or technical challenges. We have some of the best leadership teams in the industry, with experience of delivering the largest and most prestigious projects, worldwide.

What we offer

We bring together our experience and knowledge from all areas of the building process to give clients the confidence that we can meet their needs. With all of our projects, we are sensitive to the needs of the community in which we are working – whether that involves redirecting traffic or remaining efficient when working in a tight space, or enhancing the surrounds or environmental credentials of a particular area.

why mace?

Creating lasting legacies

Our mixed-use development projects greatly impact people's lives, their places of work and how they interact within their own communities. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. Ultimately, our objective is to create a positive and lasting legacy. Whether working with private developers, local authorities or community agencies, we have made a difference to urban living on a global scale. Creating new builds, mixed-use centres, refurbishing and converting older properties, including listed buildings, our projects have covered a range of markets and budgets.

Local charitable initiatives

During our South Bank Tower project, we ensured that local residents were kept in the loop. We invited them to monthly briefings, took them on site tours and issued detailed weekly and monthly newsletters. Leading a number of employee engagement initiatives, more than £25,000 was raised for Movember in 2014.

Social considerations

We fully understand the importance of minimising the environmental and social impact of operations for our clients. With clients expecting projects to be sustainable, we are here to engage and guide from concept to delivery, providing responsible business practices and financial rewards without compromising the customer experience.

An extensive track record

Mace has an extensive track record in delivering in the mixed-use development sector and we are committed to raising the quality of living and working environments both in the UK and abroad. We bring our understanding of how to maximise a development site, while delivering commercially viable projects and highly desirable addresses for both public and private sector clients.

Creating employment opportunities

Creating jobs is key, demonstrated during our London Victoria Nova project which has included the creation of 175 jobs and 10 apprenticeships for local residents, working with City of Westminster College, Jobcentre Plus, Land Securities and our supply chain. On our South Bank Tower project, we launched a four-week ‘Get into Construction’ programme - funded by the Mace Foundation and in partnership with the Prince’s Trust - offering unemployed young people free training and work experience on site.

Prioritising sustainability

Our No.1 Silo project in Cape Town was awarded the first ever six-star 'As Built' rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). No. 2 Silo also received a four-star Green Star SA Multi Unit Residential v1 Design Rating, the first residential development in South Africa to be assessed this way. For us, sustainability is elemental.

Global efforts

Height doesn’t unsettle us. We delivered Europe’s tallest tower, The Shard, in record time and employed a completely unique approach to the basic principles of construction. Standing at 310 metres high, The Shard was completed in 2012, over 41 months. At the busiest point during its construction, 1,450 workers from 60 countries were helping to build The Shard.

“We're creating a new standard for commercial and residential development in South Africa, and Mace has not only met, but surpassed our expectations. Together we've created a vibrant destination in Cape Town which is enjoyed by over 23 million visitors a year.”

“Mace has successfully delivered a very complex construction project which entails extensive reuse of existing structures, basement construction adjacent to 100 occupied flats and a 11-storey extension of an existing 31-storey tower. This project was extremely challenging and Shaun and his team have delivered it to the highest quality, safely and on time.”
