Amy Frank brings the delivery focused mindset of an architect to her role as project manager for Mace in New York. With a trained eye for drawing solutions and design, Amy challenges the status quo and ensures that our clients receive the best outcome from their architectural plans throughout the construction process.
- How did you get into what you do?
- I was working as an architect before I joined Mace in June of 2019. I’ve always been drawn to design. As a young girl, I watched my dad help with the building of our house. It felt like it was constantly under construction and I loved watching it evolve. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Fine Arts from Goucher College, I worked for several years prior to obtaining my master’s degree in architecture from Morgan State University. During my nine years as an architect, I enjoyed being involved in projects from conception to construction. When the opportunity to join Mace arose, it felt like the right career choice to make the leap over to project management.
- What attracted you to Mace?
- Mace is amazing at aligning itself with the needs of its clients and delivering the optimal outcome. We’re not afraid to do things differently and think outside of the box. I think the mentality of an architect is well-suited to Mace’s ideology - we’re always working with the client’s best interest in mind.
- What do you like the most about your job?
- Project management is a rewarding career. Mace has given me a holistic perspective on construction since I’m involved with every aspect of the project. I particularly enjoy the ownership that we have when we take on projects and the great people that we meet in the process. It’s a great feeling to know that I can draw on my architectural expertise and support our clients by sense-checking the architectural drawings throughout the project lifecycle. I’m excited to see what the future holds as Mace continues to expand in North America.
- What skills do you need to be good at project management?
- Time management, problem-solving and people skills. A large part of our success at Mace is down to the fact that we are completely dedicated to our clients and seamlessly integrate with their project teams.
- What advice would you give to someone looking to get into what you do?
- This is a great career choice for someone who is organised, thoughtful and up for a challenge. You really get a 360° view of a project, which is great for building up a general set of skills.
- What are you passionate about outside of work?
- I’m an avid runner and I’m proud to say that I completed my first NY marathon in November 2019. It was a blast, I loved it. My husband and I also have a house in Baltimore that we’re currently renovating. It’s a lot of fun and it keeps our construction abilities sharp.
- What was your childhood ambition?
- I grew up in a small town in Maryland. All throughout school I kept thinking ‘there’s got to be something better than this’ and I made it my goal to move to a big city. It’s nice to be able to say that I’ve checked that box and that the big city dream didn’t disappoint and continues to be everything I hope it would be.
